Artist Statement

“‘The Grey Area’ this series I composited is based on the idea masculinity vs femininity. I chose this idea because of recent events where men and women are forced to be placed in categories and are bonded to follow those rules. I call this series "The Grey Area" because there are people in this world where they don't follow these rules, this model decided to shave her head to liberate herself from society's normal. The color scheme was chosen by society's idea of masculine and feminine colors, the colors for the men consists of a variety shades of blues, greys, and black, while women's colors consist of orange, red, yellow, pink, orange, and green. The way I incorporated these colors to fit with my concept was by editing according to complementary colors between the two color schemes and the way the model was positioned, due to her modeling in various poses that mixed both masculine and feminine poses. With these interlocking colors and ideas, I created "The Grey Area'' to show the world that there isn't an established category for how men and women should behave, dress, or feel.”
