"What's the world for you if you can't make it up the way you want."

-Jazz, Toni Morrison

Cut the Crust

Cut the Crust

The moon does not accept dinner invitations
No big-rocket-wrangler with stars in his eyes
could manage to skew her rotation
She waves a salutation, only in the tides
prefers the company of clouds
avoids the impish nature of the sun
whispers her light stream
covets the quiet
keeps nothing in her dwelling
that would suggest
a visitor should make themselves at home

I would like to be the moon
